Using Your HTLV Server From pulsegaming.com

Each Counter-Strike or Day of Defeat pulsegaming.com server comes with at least a 1 slot HLTV included. Here you will find the information you will need to use your HLTV server.

1. The basics
Your port and rcon password for HLTV will be contained in your account center account. The rcon password for your HLTV will have been set to the same one you use for your main game process, but you can change it in the hltv.cfg file if you wish.

2. The config file
In the root of your ftp access for your game server, you will find a file called hltv.cfg This file contains all of the settings you require to change the process name, assign a new rcon password and even set a viewer password. Once you have made the changes to this file, you require,  you can exec it in the same way you would for main game process, ie using rcon while either connected to the HLTV proxy ingame or via HLSW using the command exec hltv.cfg

3. Recording a demo
Connect to you HLTV process
. You will first need to issue the "rcon password" command or already have it stored, if you are using HLSW.

a. To start recording
"
record filename
" (where filename is the name of the file you wish the demo to be called)

b. To stop recording
"stoprecording"  (don't use the command "Stop Record" it will halt the HLTV proxy and you will have to restart it)

c. Where to find the file you have recorded
FTP to the server your game server is hosted on. Change into the cstrike directory and you will find the file you have recorded. Please note that you are restricted to the speed at which these files will download, so that it will not effect the game play of other people using the server at the same time as you. The current limit is 600kb/s per second per physical server.

d. What if we have a game password set, how can HLTV join?
If you always have a passworded server, then you can change the hltv.cfg file to reflect this. Uncomment the line that starts // serverpassword (ie remove the "//") and enter in your server password. You will need to either restart the proxy or issue "exec hltv.cfg" for this change to take effect.  Now each time the HLTV server restarts it should be able to "login" to your process. If you have set a password for your match as a temporary option and HLTV has not yet joined your server, then you first need to connect to your HLTV proxy. After issuing your "rcon password", or making sure it has been stored in HLSW issue the following commands:-

serverpassword password (where password is your game password)
connect serverip:port (ie connect 217.64.127.4:27015)

and your HLTV proxy will join your server.

4. Connecting to a remote server
You are allowed
to use your HLTV proxy server to record demos from other people's servers. Do do this, first connect to your HLTV proxy and then issue the following commands:-

serverpassword password (where password is your game password)
connect serverip:port (ie connect 217.64.127.4:27015)

you can then start and stop recording in the same way as before.

5.  General  HLTV problems

a.  HLTV has stopped/left the server how do I get it to join the server again?
Log into your pulsegaming.com control panel at www.pulsegaming.com (top righthand corner)  Choose "Active Services", then the server management "icon".  From this next screen you choose "stop server" (even if the service shows as running, it is best to stop it first), then "start server", and HLTV will rejoin.

b.  I have tried restarting HLTV as above, but it still will not join.
There are several reasons why this may happen and these are listed below.

i.  You have changed the game password
HLTV needs to know the "game password" before it can join the server.  If you have a password on your server and you restart HLTV, unless that password is set in the hltv.cfg file (see 3.d) it will not be able to join.  The easiest option is to remove the password from the game and let HLTV join.  If it does not, restart HLTV again and it should join.  You can then password your server.  The best option is to edit the hltv.cfg file as in point 3.d and then restart the service.

ii.  You have banned HLTV from the server !!!
This is the most common problem and is generally down to people not using the pulsegaming.com control panel to stop the HLTV service when not needed.  Once you have banned HLTV from your server it will not return until you remove the ban.  If you have applied a permanent ban, then after removing it, it is always best to restart the game server to make sure it takes affect, followed by the HLTV service, which should now join.
