Using a Ventrilo server from pulsegaming.com
Ventrilo can be used for home / personal applications like talking to friends and family, or playing organized online games where Voice Communications can make them more exciting and productive. It can also be used in an enterprise environment as a productivity tool for conducting long distance group discussions.
There are 2 components that go to make up Ventrilo. There is the server portion, which runs on pulsegaming.com servers, and the client portion that runs on your computer.
Please first make sure that you have the latest version of the Ventrilo Client software. This can be downloaded from the downloads section of your control panel or directly from the Ventrilo website.
Once you have installed the “Client” software on your computer, you are ready to configure it to connect to your pulsegaming.com Ventrilo Server.
Configuring and Connecting your Ventrilo Client
If this is the first time you have configured or used Ventrilo, then it will look something like this:-

1. Create a Username
The first item to set up in our Ventrilo Client is our username. This can be any name you like and may be similar to the one you use on IRC.
a. Click the across arrow to the right hand side of the User Name field

A new window will appear.

b. Click on “New”

and enter your desired name, followed by OK.

c. You can set various other options at this stage, but you can return and do these at a later date if you wish. Click OK to continue.
2. Adding a Ventrilo server to connect to.
The next item to set up is the server to connect to. The full information you will need to do this will have been included in your welcome email along with being held in your account centre area.
a. Click the across arrow on the right hand side of the server field

A new window will appear.

b. Click on “New”

and enter your desired name to call the server, followed by OK.

c. Enter the hostname ventrilo.pulsegaming.com (this is the same for all our servers)
We are often asked why we don’t provide an IP address like 217.64.127.x to be entered into the hostname field, but use ventrilo.pulsegaming.com instead. The reason is that by using a host name it is easy for us to upgrade the servers or move to a different physical machine in case of hardware failure without any need to notify our customers. This ensures minimal “downtime” and less configuration changes for you, the customer.

d. Enter in your port number (this will have been included in your welcome email and your account centre area)

e. Enter your channel password. All pulsegaming.com Ventrilo servers have a channel password applied. This gives you greater control over who can join your server. Your channel password would have been included in your welcome email and control panel area.

You do not need to enter a default channel to join as you have a full server and so by default can enter the “lobby” area.

f. Click OK to save all your settings.

You are now ready to connect to your pulsegaming.com server for the first time, so click on the connect button (making sure you are online first!!) to join the server.

You will see at the top, the name of the server you have joined, followed by the current ping between you and the server..
Administrating your Ventrilo Server
To Administrate your server, whether to create new channels, ban users or change the “message of the day” (MOTD) you will first need to login as the Administrator user.
1. Right click in the main channel area of the server and choose “Server Admin” --> “Login”

2. When prompted put in your Server Admin password (This will have been supplied in your welcome email as well as being in your account centre area)

The “Welcome” message will now have an “A” in front of it to confirm you have now logged in with Administrative rights.

Now that you have logged in as Administrator, by right clicking on a “user” or a “channel” you will have a range of options that will allow you to kick or ban users, remove users from the ban list, create “channels” and set passwords for them and lots more. Further instructions can be found by clicking the “Help” button.
